Portland, Oregon We’re fired up about Flyball! |
Meet the Dogs |
Here they are, the stars, the ones who make it all possible. Without these guys, we’d be just a sad bunch of humans, fumbling around with no purpose in the runback area. |
...the REAL team-owners! |

Tahoe, FMCh |
Danya, an eleven year old German Shepherd Dog, is our top dog, with the highest title and most honors. She was the first dog in Oregon to earn the ONYX title and was voted MVP in Region 7 in 2006. One of the original members of Oregon’s first Flyball team (the Mutt-keteers), Danya is now gracefully going into semi-retirement. |
Spam is one of our height dogs, a petite 7 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier who could easily start her own fan club, given the reception she receives at every tournament. Spam is a solid Flyball professional, often running full-time at tournaments. But Spam doesn’t limit her success just to Flyball—she also competes in Agility and is a 2 time finalist at the Disc Dog World Championship. |
Fast and consistent, Tahoe loves this game. A 6 year old Border Collie/Lab mix, she started playing Flyball in 2003. In her very first tournament, she ran full-time as a start dog. Not only did she finish that tournament without so much as a bobbled ball, she also got her very first perfect start. As a Tail Blazer, Tahoe still runs in starting position, getting the team off on the right paw every time. |
Winnie, a 7 1/2 year old Yellow Lab, has been playing Flyball since 2004. A sleek 52 pound competitor now, it’s hard to believe that when she was first adopted by her Flyball parents, she weighed 76 pounds! “Friendly and fun” doesn’t even begin to describe Winnie. She’s a serious Flyball girl, but she’s also not too proud to ask for a belly rub on the start line. |

Wyatt, FDCh-S |
Kiva is an (almost) 7 year old Australian Shepherd. He has been playing Flyball for 4 years, first with 4 Dog Night in Columbia, MD and now with the Tail Blazers. He is FDCh-Silver and planning on going Gold soon! Besides playing Flyball, his favorite things are chasing squirrels and butt scratches. |

Bryan |
Raff |
Bryan is a 2 year old Miniature Pinscher/Italian Greyhound mix whose intelligence and speed make him an excellent height dog prospect. In fact, he showed so much promise that Tail Blazer members pretty much strong-armed his adoptive mom into joining the team. Still in training, Bryan is quickly reaching the point where he’ll make his Flyball debut. |
Hotshot, FDCh |
Hotshot is a 2 year old Border Collie mix, who is just getting his start in competition this year—in Flyball, Disc, and Agility, that is! His stamina is amazing, as he will often come to practice having already competed at an all-day Agility event. He has a ton of energy and is, hands down, one of the most fun dogs around! |

Wyatt’s nickname is “Quiet Wyatt” because he is such a quiet, mellow soul...until he you put him in a racing lineup, that is. That’s when he transforms into a barking Flyball fanatic! Wyatt is a 3 year old Australian Shepherd who started his Flyball training in July of 2006, and competed in his first tournament a short 3 months later. His great loves in life are tennis balls, Frisbees, and belly rubs. |
Raff, a 3 year old Keeshond, is in training with the Tail Blazers and is very nearly “tournament ready”. He didn’t start out as a ball-crazy kid, but with the power of cheese, anything is possible! Given that there are very few Keeshonden currently competing in Flyball, Raff hopes to make a name for himself in the Flyball world very soon. When not getting belly rubs and chasing squirrels, Raff’s favorite pastime is pretending that he’s a member of the Herding Group. |
Cedi, FMCh |
Cedi is an 8 year old Australian Shepherd and is proud to be a founding member of the Portland Tail Blazers. She is a favorite of the team because she is easy for almost any handler to run, just "point and shoot." A speedy little gal, Cedi measures just over 18"; her best-ever time was 4.2 seconds on grass over 8 inch jumps. One of her favorite hobbies is staring a person down until they give in and throw the ball! |
Mellie, FDCh |
Mellie, a Border Collie, is a Flyball fanatic. Just 2 years old, she started her racing career with the Tail Blazers and currently holds down the anchor spot in a racing lineup. Famous for her amazing instant re-run, Mellie measures a bit over 18" at the shoulder. After just three tournaments, her best time is 4.1 seconds, set on mats over 7" jumps in UFLI competition. Mellie’s favorite hobby is training her owner. |
