Box Wranglers!
We've arranged with a group of local young people to serve as Box Wranglers for the weekend moving flyball boxes in and out of the ring.
The group is affiliated with F.I.R.S.T. Lego League, and their description of their projects and why they are wrangling boxes as a fundraiser is in the box below.
We hope you'll support their efforts (and save your backs!)
Cost for Box Wrangling: $5/team (not club) per day ($10/team/weekend)
Sign up and pay Friday evening or before racing starts on Saturday!
FIRST Lego League
FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition in Science
and Technology, and it was started by someone who wanted to help kids get
interested in science and technology. In September they will release a
challenge, and teams of kids all over the country will build robots out of
Legos that can accomplish all the tasks in the challenge. In November we
will compete with our robot in a regional competition, and if we do well we
will go to the state competition in December. We also have to do a research
project that we present to the judges. Two years ago the theme was helping
people in wheelchairs (the robot had to solve problems that people in
wheelchairs might have) and last year it was Ocean Odyssey, and our research
project was nonpoint source pollution and the Chesapeake Bay.
Our team has to raise money for our entry fees, our challenge board (that
the robot does the challenges on), a new robot, and other expenses. Last
year different companies donated money, but we are excited that we can earn
money at the flyball competition!
