Sheltie Helps Set Flyball Records Written by Glen Ferguson But Lacy, the 5.00 second dog in question is a 16" Sheltie and with her in the lineup, her three Border Collie team mates jump 2" lower then they would otherwise. Previous world records were set by all Border Collie teams jumping 14" (17.89 by Border Patrol., Dec. '90 and 17.83 by the Renegades, June '91) Initially Lacy was added to the McCann Royal Canadians to enable some of the promising Border Collie puppies to gain valuable tournament experience at lower jump heights. But the combination of Lacy and three Border Collies turned out to be so steady and fast it was decided that they should stay together and gofor the record. With Lacy on the team the Royal Canadians have won their first four tournaments this year. In Flint in May, Lacy the Sheltie, Britt, the Border Collie, and her two 17 month old daughters, Megan and Stoni set a new official world record of 17.78 seconds. Another interesting feature of this team is that the four dogs, the handlers and their coach are all female. (note: Lacy, Megan and Stoni all finished their Canadian OTCH titles, with Megan going top dog all breeds one year. They were a very versitle, team, excelling in obedience, flyball and agility) Lacy has shown that, even at the highest level of competition, there is a place for smaller dogs. This versatile Sheltie, who also has CDX (now UD) and Agility dog titles, will continue to race with the Royal Canadians until the end of the year when she will take some time off to have puppies (Note.... Lacy has produced 6 FbDCH titled or higher... Jetta has earned her ONYX, Steele earned her FMCH.. 2 Can OTCH, 2 CDX, multi agility titled offspring, and her grandchildren, Striker, CDX, FMCH, 2002 AAC National Specials 16' champion, and Teika, CDX, FbDCH continue the tradition. Editors note: The McCann A Team has since posted a new record time of 17.76 at the Border Patrol tounament held in June 1992. Congratulations! |

| The biggest audience we have ever
performed in front of was at the 6th game of the 2nd world series that the
Blue Jays won. Imagine being the opening act with over 50,000 screaming fans (no ball players, just fans) . What a rush!! And, to have the Blue Jays win the series that night, words can not describe the feeling! |

| Why would a flyball team intent on breaking existing flyball records recruit a 5.00 second dog? For over a year and a half theworld record has been under 18.00 seconds, therefore common sense would suggest that, at this high level of competition, the 5.00 second dog would be a liability. |
