Yasha was a Border Collie and she was owned by Cathy Rice. Yasha was a rescue dog and Cathy adopted her at the age of 7 - years that is. Yasha was a sweet friendly girl with a wonderful temperament and impeccable manners that were a credit to to her breed and to Cathy.
A tribute to Yasha by Marge Henderson:-
Yasha was a rescue dog, however not your usual rescue dog. She had been in several homes, 2 in her first year, through no fault of her own. Her first owner passed away while Yasha was still a pup. Her second home lasted longer but she ended up in Oregon Border Collie rescue at age 7. For the next 2years Yasha went from one foster home to another as no one would adopt a dog her age. I got a call from BC Rescue in OR asking me to try to find her a home.
I agreed and Yasha arrived in So. Calif. complete with health records and registration papers. A well-known breeder in Texas had bred her. I didn’t know if I could help this dog or not as besides her age she was mildly displastic in one hip. Yasha was so weak in the rear from lack of activity that she could not jump up to say hello. Enter Cathy Rice! Cathy adopted this dog that no one wanted. Gave her exercise to build her muscles and taught her to play Flyball. Yasha loved to play ball and even though she was 10 years old at the time she earned FDCH.
Cathy also took Yasha through some agility classes to further improve her fitness and let her have some fun.
Yasha was with Cathy for 6 years. No doubt
in my mind they were the best 6 years of her life.
