Dog walk areas:

Dog Parks in Maine

Bangor City Forest.

650 acres of trails and can have the dogs off leash.  The forest is accessible via Kittredge Road and Tripp Drive. Kittredge Road is at the intersection of Hogan Road and Stillwater Avenue, near the Bangor Mall. Tripp Drive is off Stillwater Avenue, 1.6 miles north of the junction of Stillwater Avenue and Hogan Road, just before the kennel and concrete factory. If you're coming from the south on the interstate, you can take either Exit 186 (Stillwater Avenue) or Exit 187 (Hogan Road). If you're coming from the north on I-95, take Exit 187.

Seal Harbor- Rockefeller land (Click here for map of the island).

About 9 miles of Carriage Roads where dogs are allowed to be off-leash, right next to Acadia National Park.  Just have to watch out for deer and horses.  Oh, and no bikes on this part.  Lots of creeks for cooling down and big pond for swimming.  I live right on these carriage roads, so we do these trails daily and it never gets old.

Directions: About and hour and a half from Bangor.  Take route 1A to Ellsworth, follow 1A until you merge with Route 3.  Follow Route 3 through Ellsworth and Trenton.  After you cross the Trenton bridge to Mount Desert Island, you will reach a stoplight.  Veer right at the stoplight (Route 102/198).  Follow until you reach stoplight- will be just after "Sommesville One Stop" gas station and convenience store.  Take a left onto Route 3.  Route 3 will make another left turn when you approach Northeast Harbor.  The dog walk area will be on your left 1.8 miles from the last turn.  There are two entrances- one gravel drive up to a parking area and one on-street parking area.  The on-street parking area is the most obvious- on the left is Long Pond and on the right is Seal Harbor beach.  The off-street parking area is the entrance right before that (a gravel drive).

Acadia National Park.

Over 35,000 acres of trails and beautiful scenery.  Dogs must be on-leash inside the park, but still many beautiful trails and views.  There are many entrances, but you can get a lot of information by going to the main park information building.  Once you get over the Trenton bridge towards Bar Harbor (see above) veer left instead of right.  The visitor center will be on your right.  If you travel on Route 3 you will pass many of the entrances.

Portland Area- Casco Bay Portland Harbor.

30 Acres of Park dedicated to the canines of Portland.  Not officially a "dog park" but dogs are allowed to be off leash.  Located between Forest and Stevens Avenues in Portland
