Boston
Stragglers, May 7th and 8th, 2005: For the regular team we had
Sally, Eartha, Susie, Chance, Haiku and Cosmo. For the multibreed
team we had Sally, Eartha, Lark, Shrek for the team and Karmela for
warm-ups.
Bring It!:
Somehow our regular team ended up in division
1 with a seed time of 21 seconds. Since other teams in that division
regularly run under 19 seconds, we did not anticipate winning many
races. However, we still had a great time racing some great
teams. Our three borders (Sally, Susie and Chance) held their own,
and Eartha did a great job as always as the height dog. Haiku got
her groove back and did some awesome runs- even picking up a few 25 point
runs! The highlight of the weekend was that Cosmo made his most
excellent debut and did three awesome 25 point runs. In addition, he
was in the middle of the line-up so was passing and being passed by border
collies, and racing dogs in the other lane without crossing over. He
takes a little while to get acclimated to the racing lanes, but once he
does he's a pretty solid dog. We expect great things from this young
man! The regular team ended up with 5th place in division 1.
Life is Good:
This was the tournament for the multibreed team. All of a
sudden, the dogs started running together as a team and really looked
good. Lark learned to start from further back, so she could get some
good acceleration, and Shrek started racing. He even put some of his
box turn practice to good use- as he realized that launching off the box
is a good way to get ahead of your opponent. Unfortunately, the team
ran much faster than we ever expected, so they broke out twice (and we had
to sand-bag to not break out a third time), but they had some good
races. Lark got her FDCH with ease. Because the multibreed
team started running so well (and getting 25 point runs), Sally was able
to get enough points for her FMX! Since we didn't break out a third
time, we were able to get first place in multibreed 2- our club's first
time placing first!
