FAME Tourney
What a time we had in Sackville! The weekend
had some scary moments, but also saw some great successes! |
| None of us will forget the recent competition hosted by FAME for a
long time. We headed to Sackville with high hopes and high
spirits, ready for an exciting weekend of racing. And things
started off well...a table loaded with treats, and plenty of Tim's to go
around. |

Racing started off on a high note, too. Lacey, a flyball
veteran if ever there was one, had been having some trouble with our new
boxes...we had tried several training strategies to help her out, but
she was still bobbling on the turn. Going into the tourney, we
weren't sure how she would perform. But our fears were groundless.
From the opening heat, Lacey had us all cheering. Suddenly,
everything came together for her. We thought Emily was going to
hurt herself she was jumping and yelling so hard. (There must have
been some people wondering why there were so many cheers from the F'n'F
crew even when we were losing heats!)

From the high to the low...Indiana collapsed in the ring. It was a
scary time, but fortunately she recovered quickly. Airwave
finished the day as an exhibition team, and Indy was able to run a
couple of races on Sunday, back to 100%. We're still not
completely sure what caused her collapse, but she seems to have no
lasting effects, and has been given a clean bill of health by her
doctor. One good thing came of the incident: we saw how our club
was able to pull together, everyone showing concern and compassion,
making team adjustments to ensure everyone could run on Sunday.
And Rachel found the entire Region 10 group to be great...she couldn't
count the people who asked about Indy's condition and offered words of
concern and encouragement. |

Crash gets his reward as part of Airwave |
Indy's return to action Sunday was the weekend's big highlight, and
a huge boost to our spirits, but there were others. Crash ran on
Airwave for the first time so that Indy could have a light day, and
performed superbly...he went undefeated in all four of his races,
earning his first ever Division 1 First Place! His "sister", Raine,
also had a great day, actually making Shari tear up at her performance. |

There were other adjustments made. Reggie moved from Fired Up to
Blitz, filling in for Crash, and holding the team together. He was
definitely missed on Fired Up, but our beginner dogs had a tremendous
weekend, and rose to the challenge. Gypsy, Sai-lo, Rudy, Olivia,
Atom...all made great progress, and managed to win a few races. It
was Atom's last tournament with F'n'F...he's moving to BC to chase
goats...so it was a great way to send him off. |

All in all, the weekend was a great success.
Best of all, it showed us how well we can pull together as a club when
faced with problems. And now we move onto preparations for the
Lietash PTL tournament coming up in May! |
