DogGoneFast Winter WufFest 2002

Raleigh, North Carolina      January 5th, 2002

Welcome to the first DogGoneFast Winter WufFest! As I sit at the kitchen table and type this letter, I can see that the sun is out and the 12+ inches of snow are starting to melt (a little!).  Geoff and Wyn are getting ready to play some flyball.  Wyn says, “The tournament is inside, right??”

Thank you for your entries; we are expecting a Region 9 record setting 54 teams!  Please check the other links on our web site for seed chart, racing schedule, detailed directions/maps and a complete list of food sales.

The racing schedule is very aggressive, as we have managed to guarantee each team 39 or 40 heats. We have split the racing 60/40 between Saturday and Sunday, so that we don’t run too late on Sunday.  We have some very ‘cool’ trophies for first place winners, ribbons for 2nd and 3rd placements, a raffle and a bake table, and a prize table.

We would like to thank the other Region 9 teams for lending us matting, jumps, backstops, ring gating, wickets and race number flip charts.  Without their generosity, a 2-ring tournament would not have been possible.

Racing Format

All racing is Round Robin, either 5/5 or 3/3.  Teams are awarded 1 tournament point for each heat won, and an additional point for winning the race.  Ties will be broken by the best time posted in the division.  Warm-ups will be 2 minutes on both days.  Warm-up time may be reduced to 90 seconds if necessary. Please notify the judge if you do not need the entire warm-up period.

Regular 1, 2 and Multi 5 are running 1 RR 5/5 and 1 RR 3/3 (alternating 5/5 and 3/3)

Regular 3, and Multi 1, 3, 4 are running 2 RR 5/5 and 1 RR 3/3

Regular 4, 5, 6 and Multi 1 are running 2 RR 5/5

Venue Information

The Holshouser building (racing building) will be open until at least 9pm on Friday night; you may drop off your flyball boxes if you wish.  There is no room for team crating in the racing building, exceptions have been given for judges and for folks that cannot walk between the 2 buildings.

The Harrill Center (crating building) may be open on Friday evening (watch our site for updates).  Please note that we will have designated crating areas in order to accommodate the number of teams attending the tournament. If you do not plan to crate indoors, please let me know, as this will allow more space for everyone. Note that this area will be supervised at all times (including during the Saturday night dinner).

Food

We have arranged with a local Boy Scout troop to provide breakfast, lunch, snacks and Saturday night dinner on-site.  The complete list of food is available on our web site.  Several of the boy scouts and their parents are volunteering at our tournament; the food sales are a fundraiser for them so please consider using this service.  Dinner reservations may be made by contacting Marty Rooney at madr5@yahoo.com.

Saturday Evening Entertainment

Due to popular demand, we plan to have Human Flyball racing on Saturday evening after the spaghetti dinner.  Sign up sheets and all the information you need will be available on site on Saturday.  Please join us!
