My cousin Win is the one doing the family tree and she mentioned last time that she was having trouble tracing Nana's grandmother's whereabouts . She had found a lot of information in Malmesbury, Wiltshire going back through the Cypher family - the name Frederick William Cypher cropped up back to the 1600s. Nana's maiden name was Lilian Jane Cypher, her mother's maiden name was Alice Anne Gard(e)ner and her mother's maiden name was Twineham, or Twynam or some other variation - apparently Win has found at least three. She would have been born I would estimate around 1860 or so probably in Wiltshire, since that is where Nana's parents came from. Sorry to be vague about it - I don't have any of Win's papers here, so am going from memory. The CD sounds interesting - I didn't know such things existed! I'm sure we can think of other things to look up by giving it a little thought. --------- Interesting information about the ancestors, though I don't think any of them were ours! As best I can recall Nana's name and vital stats were as follows:Lilian Jane Cypher - The Lilian is unusual in that it has only one L in the middle - most people seem to have two.Born March 2 1914 married probably Camberwell, London April 6 1936 - Her father was Frederick William Cypher and her mother Alice Anne Gard(e)ner - Nana's mother was born in Wales - her father was almost certainly born in or around Malmesbury in Wiltshire - the family had been around that area for several hundred years. Grandpa's full name is Alfred Jenkins - born in London on January 14, 1915. His father was Henry Jenkins , his mother Emily Morris. Henry Jenkins had a lot of brothers . Emily had at least one brother, Alfred, who was married to Aunt Edie whom we visited in Richmond when you were young - the lady we went with to the park with the fountains. Grandpa had two brothers George and Henry and two sisters Marie and Emily. Nana had two sisters Maude and Winifred, and two brothers Henry (Harry) and I think Frederick ,- the last one I'm not sure about.- I think the mother of Henry Jenkins - my grandfather - was called Nellie Weaver. Dad' s father was Rex Alan Miller - his mother Florence Anne Blower. As to marriage and birthdays - I'm really not sure, though his mother's was around Dec.20 - I will ask Dad when he comes home. Rex had a brother - whom you saw in the hospital in Malvern - called Leslie - who was married to Aunt Gertie who gave you the ring! Florence had a sister called Daisy who died young and , of course, a sister called Doris. I can't think of Grandpa & Grandma Blower's name right now, but I ' m sure Dad will remember. I met Grandma Miller when she was in her 90's - I believe her name was Clara. That's about all I can think of right now - what exists of the family tree from Win is back in Collingwood, and I also have a letter there that Grandpa sent me when I needed information for him to emigrate to Canada, which has his parents birthdates - but I can't remember them! If you can hang onto the disk long enough maybe we can find out more! Have taken my ring into be repaired at a jeweller Sally recommended and am supposed to pick it up this aft. He said "you are really tough on your rings - I had to agree when I looked at it under the microscope - one of the other diamonds was cracked and most of them looked as though the only thing holding them in was dirt!! By for now Mum ------------------------ received from dad on mar 12,99 Did you ever get any where with the ancester search? I remember when I was 6 grandpa Miller was 66 (I asked when I was 7 would he be 77 !) & I remember he wanted to be 80 but died at 79.....So you can now calculate when he was born & died.I also remember he retired on his 65 birthday from the post office at Xmas & they moved from Wolverhampton to retire in Folkstone, a resort area on the South coast. I holidayed with them in '38 & '39 & watched the German battle ships cruising down the English channel, from the cliffs of Dover.
