Candy is an SPCA adoption who came into our lives in 2004. In January of 2004, my son, Fredric and I went into the shelter to see if we could find a dog to replace one we had. A little puppy in a large cage barked at me looking at some of puppies. I turned around and said “Quiet”, to which the puppy sat down and looked at me. The SPCA employee was impressed that she had listened to me and obeyed. Fredric and I left, indicating we had not seen anything our family would like. A month later, we again returned and one of the SPCA employees was holding this little puppy – Fredric went over, took the dog out of her arms and said – “This is the one”. So home she came and when we got home, Candy barked at me and when I told her – “Quiet” – she sat down and looked at me. Wow, it was the same dog we had seen before. We then knew Candy was meant to be with us. She lives with 3 cats and is very protective of her food dish and one special squeaky toy that she won at her second flyball tournament.
Candy was a very shy creature when she came to us but through Agility Training and Flyball Training has gained a lot of confidence. She loves running and thinks flyball is the greatest – you just have to say the word and she is excited and ready to go. Agility is another sport she enjoys participating in and we have just started trailing this past year.
