The beginner flyball class is designed for the novice. We use techniques taught to us by Spring Loaded (current world record holders) and others to teach dogs the basic elements of flyball (jumping, recalls to the owner, swimmers turn on the box, playing as a reward, building speed, etc.).The goals of the beginner flyball class are:

1. For owners to have fun with their dog

2. To strengthen the bond between owner and dog

3. To learn the basic components of flyball

  • Basic components are taught separately to start
    • using the motivator
    • retrieving
    • jumping
    • recalls
    • the flyball box
    • the swimmers turn

  • After the components are learned they are put together to form the run
  • We also add into our class some relaxation and focus exercises which come from the book "Control Unleashed - creating a focused and confident dog" by Leslie McDevitt
  • Our head instructors have been competing successfully in flyball for over 9 years!

At the end of the beginner class dogs have often mastered some or all of the components of flyball and have begun to put the run together. More importantly the dog and owner have enjoyed some fun together and have learned some new skills.

Owners wishing to compete in flyball are encouraged to continue on in the Intermediate Flyball Class.

Dogs wishing to participate in a beginner class should have reasonable social skills with other dogs. No previous training is required but it does help with focus if you have taken some puppy or beginner obedience.

We accept puppies into our classes but will tailor the exercises to their needs
