We agree.  It's not a very flattering name, but it's the one given to her during her track days.  She came to live with our team captain in 2003 when he was living in South Florida.  He met someone from a Greyhound adoption group while practicing amateur racing with his Whippets.  For four weeks, they begged him to take her.   . . .  and they baited him:  "Look, she even likes tennis balls.  You can do ANYTHING with this dog."  Sure enough, she liked tennis balls.

Three and a half years later, she's still training for competition.  Part of the reason is that she had some growing up and slowing down to do.  The other part is that her handler wavered in his resolve

to get her going.  Josie has seemed very close to competing more than once and then has gotten bored and has attempted to reach full track speed in our confined practice area.

Recently, however, Josie's behavior has been more consistent.  She is reliable going to the box and bringing her ball to her handler.  She still needs guides to get her through the first jump coming back.  She is closer than she has ever been to competing, and we are working to get her there.  With her hard work and improved focus and control, Josie is on track to earn her first title before she is eligible to run Veterans.  Woohoo Jos.
