Lost Dogs and
Mixed Blessings
. . . it’s an
album title that might aptly describe the peaks and valleys of Double
Dog Dare’s racing year – mostly peaks but definitely some valleys.
We said goodbye to Mark Nipper and Angie Maxted and their
dogs Bailey, Ivy and Rooster and welcomed to our competition team
Melissa and Philip Hunt and their dog Isabelle, Kelly Dyer and
Jason Perry and their dog Maisie and Lanny Scaife and her dog Maddie. We cruised
comfortably to a
Division 4 1st Place finish at the 2010 U-FLI Championship in St. Louis
and struggled along the way to becoming NAFA Region 14 Multibreed
Champions. Our senior most canine, Huey, surrendered a leg
to cancer but finished the racing year still competing and teaching us
all about a dog’s fighting spirit.

Club Takes
Its First Regional Championship in Multibreed |

CLUB and TEAM
accomplishments lead our list of brags at the close of the 2010 racing
year. For the first time in its five years as a Georgia club and
member of NAFA Region 14, Double Dog Dare earned the regional
championship in Multibreed. Multibreed is a class of racing where
each of the four dogs in the lineup must be a different breed. In
November the club traveled to St. Louis to compete in U-FLI’s
Tournament of Champions and brought home 1st place in
Division 4. The club raced a new fastest time of 17.683, besting its
previous fastest time by nearly a half second. |
The NAFA championship was a club effort
if ever there were one. Double Dog Dare fielded teams of different
dogs every time it competed in the Multibreed class. In all, 22 dogs
representing 13 breeds appeared on the club’s rosters. That’s every
dog that ran with the club. Every dog earned points in those lineups
and contributed to our final regional standing. This is a success in
and out of the ring, as it represents both the club’s effectiveness at
competing and at fulfilling its mission of building a breed diverse
flyball organization.

three as U-FLI’s
Division 4 champions. The rosters for this championship team were a
lot more consistent than our NAFA Multi rosters and changed only out
of necessity with the departure of club members Mark Nipper and Angie
Maxted and their three dogs. Our Division 4 team comprised six dogs:
Isabelle (Irish Terrier), Mattie (Jack Russell Terrier), Oliver
(Mix), Siren (Mix), Tweek (Border Collie) and Zoom (Border Collie).
All of them ran, and all of them earned us wins. Even handlers who
didn’t have dogs on the championship team made the huge commitment to
travel to St. Louis to support the team and run in regular tournament
racing. Racing at the Purina Event Center made for |
