ECHO
DOB: September, 2000
LIKES: balls, balls, more balls
Breed: Border Collie, Fluffy, front half white, back half mostly black, stuck up gremlin ears, prancing gait, intense attention, feathered tail and ears that would make a Papillion jealous.
Nicknames: Bume Bjorna (Little Bear in Danish), Gremlin, Hey You, X, Speckles, Miss. Mouse, Baby, Boo, Prosti-pup (because she’ll drop the ball in your lap, crawl up and cuddle then jump down and demand you throw the ball as a reward for her cuddle).
Favourite Game: Flyball, of course along with the pools afterwards.
Favourite Toy: Tennis Balls and any round things (potatoes and apples work too), Utter Tugs and plastic bottles (she likes to twist the tops off of them then crunch them up).
Favourite Food: Undecided, she eats anything you give her, she’s very toy motivated so she’ll actually ignore food.
Other Sports (other than Flyball): Swimming, dock diving, sheep herding, a little bit of agility.
Echo loves to chase shadows when she gets bored and we’re not playing with her. She tries to entertain herself (it also didn’t help that David, her human brother, decided to play with her with a laser pointer when she was young). Echo is very obedient off leash and does everything you ask her too. She is learning a few new tricks like backing up and wave and high five. Even though she plays tug at the back of the lane she is very, very careful not to get fingers (she’s even grabbed my hand and slid down to the rope without damaging me). Her human brother and sister have tried their hardest to de-sensitize her to everything and because of it she thinks everything is a possible game (there is nothing like trying to take a picture with the dog going nuts because of the whir it makes). Echo has so many nicknames that I think she responds to just about anything now. She started out being called pup-pup, then it was Gremlin or Gremmy, then it was Bumse Bjorna (little bear in Danish), hey you (that was to get her attention), X,
Stories: One time we were packing up to go to flyball and we were a little bit late. Panic struck and trying to get three or four things done at once, we jumped into the van, backed out of the driveway and started out on the hour long trip to Caledonia. More than halfway there, I looked into the back seat only to discover that there was something missing.
“Ah, mom,” I started.
“What?”
“We forgot Echo.”
“We what???”
“We forgot the dog!”
At around that same time we got a phone call. It was dad. He asked if we had forgotten something, like maybe the dog.
Yeah… so we had to continue on to flyball practice without a dog to race.
We all got a bit of a laugh because Echo is so quiet on trips that now we have to do a check before we go anywhere. It has become a ritual. “Have we got the dog?”
