Ceilidh

D.O.B. - not known, probably around end Sept, beginning Oct. 2000

LIKES – running and jumping in the field, hunting and killing mice, playing tug, chasing anything or anyone, anywhere, cat food, popcorn, squashed pop bottles, cuddles, destuffing toys/balls

DISLIKES – baths, brushing, combing, nail trimming, vacuum cleaner, computer printer

HER STORY – Ceilidh was adopted at 9 months of age. In her previous life she was called “Princess” and was spending her days tied outside a trailer. Out of sheer boredom Princess developed some interesting habits, like trying to herd flies and birds.  At times she tries to herd the fish in the backyard pond, but since falling in once, she is a little more tolerant of their wandering behaviour. Bees must certainly be kept out of the yard though!

A career in sheep-herding came to an abrupt end almost as soon as it had started when Ceilidh earned a new nickname, “The Slasher” when first introduced to sheep.  After several attempts it was determined that while the Slasher had loads of “good instincts”, her mother had no such thing…..

Ceilidh now has an adopted brother, Tron, a smooth border collie mix.   One of her favourite tricks on poor Tron is to stand at the window and bark as if something is out there, then when Tron joins her she rushes back to take his bone, toy or sleeping place and pretends nothing happened, leaving him bewildered.

Like most border collies, Ceilidh has learned to play flyball very quickly. She has become a regular and consistent member of the Ballderdashers, running her first race at Sarnia in 2003.  Since then she has earned many titles, finally achieving her FDCH August/06.  Her best time so far is 3.83 seconds, with average times of 4.0-4.1. She has an amazing turn at the box which she developed naturally.
